It's always hard to determine whether or not Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone operating system is "killing it."

According to StatCounter, global market share for the Windows Phone line (WP7 and WP8) rose from just 1.05 percent in January to 1.33 percent in May, a gain of 27 percent.

But, it is just 1.33 percent, which is nothing to write home about.

Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android moved from 36.87 percent at the start of the year to 38.27 percent.

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS was at 25.85 percent in January, rose a little through the year, then seemingly dropped to 25.86 percent by May.
