While there is some competition, most notably that of iOS, Android has not shown any sign of slowing down in this market. In fact, the operating system has picked up steam as of late.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) can Thank Samsung

It sounds like a broken record at this point, but Google Inc can thank Samsung for the dominating performance by its Android operating system.

Samsung was the total mobile phone vendor in Western Europe during the second quarter of 2013. The company is holding onto a 43.4 percent market share, with Nokia, Apple, Sony, and LG playing catch-up.

These companies are doing more than playing catch-up in this market. With the numbers the way they are right now, it would take a colossal effort to dethrone Samsung. Nokia is and Apple are sitting in second place, both with 13.2 percent of the market.

How about some Android Stats?

Now, let’s take a closer look at how well the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system is performing.

According to IDC, “shipments went up 29% year on year to 23.2 million units, which gave Android OS 71% market share.” On the surface, those numbers are impressive enough. But get this: this is the highest ever in the region. This goes a long way in showing that Android is dominating right now at a pace never before seen by the Western Europe market.

What about the competition? iOS managed to lose market share this past quarter, as expected, since consumers are waiting for the new iPhone to ship during the third quarter. Regardless of the reason, this doesn’t bode well for Cupertino since Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) continues to hit on all cylinders.

If you haven’t been paying close attention to the Western Europe market, now may be the time to do so. It will be interesting to see what happens during the third quarter. Will Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) hold onto its huge lead? Will iOS be able to break into this with the help of a new smartphone? Only time will tell.

The following hedge fund managers have to enjoy seeing this type of performance: Robert Karr, Daniel Benton, Sandy Nairn, Gregory Bylinsky, and Christopher Hansen.
