Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Xbox 360 Continues Crazy Run at Top

With the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One getting set to release in November, many are beginning to look towards the future of gaming. While there is nothing wrong with this, it is important to keep a close eye on what is going on at the present time. More specifically, how well the Xbox 360 continues to perform.

Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Xbox 360 Continues Crazy Run at Top

During the month of August, according to the NPD Group, the Xbox 360 maintained its lead at the top of the United States game console market. Not only is it at the top, but this marks the 32nd month in a row of holding down this position.

If the Xbox One is as successful as the 360 has been, it is safe to say that MSFT will be excited with the direction this part of its business is heading.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox 360 August Highlights

CEO Steve Ballmer must have a big smile on his face, knowing that this console has been so dominant for nearly three years running.

According to the NPD group study, total spent on the Xbox 360 platform reached $213 million. This numbers includes hardware, along with both software and accessories.

While players continue to spend money on this platform, it is important to make note that the console also held six of the top 10 spots among game titles. The games that made their way onto this list for the month of August included: Madden NFL 25, Saints Row IV, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell:  Blacklist, Minecraft, Payday 2, and Disney Infinity.

On one side of things, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has to enjoy the fact that its Xbox 360 continues to dominate the competition. That being said, nothing lasts forever and it now has to prove the same with the upcoming Xbox One.

The good thing is this: the Xbox One is already off to an excellent start, set to be released in 13 markets on November 22. Along with this, after 12 week of preorder sales, the new console is trending at double the Xbox 360 during its launch period.

It is impossible to deny that the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox 360 is not the king of game consoles in the United States. Will the Xbox One pick up where the 360 leaves off?

These hedge fund managers continue to like what they see from MSFT: William Duhamel, James Litinsky, Jeffrey Ubben, Kelly Cardwell, and Sandy Nairn.
