Occidental offered mid-$70s per share to buy Anadarko, CNBC reports

Occidental Petroleum (OXY) offered mid-$70s per share to acquire Anadarko Petroleum, CNBC's David Faber reports, citing sources. In addition, Friday morning's release of Chevron (CVX) reaching a deal to acquire Anadarko for $65 per share cut short a possible higher bid from Occidental, adds Faber. Occidental's deal included 40% cash, he added. The company continues to weigh its options, according to Faber. Shares of Anadarko are up 35c to $62.24 in early trading while Occidental Petroleum is down $1.76 to $63.56.
