Malta December HICP Inflation Lowest In Nine Months

Malta’s inflation, based on the EU measure, eased sharply to a nine-month low in December, after accelerating in the previous two months, data released by the National Statistics Office showed on Wednesday.

The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) rose 2.8 percent year-on-year in December, after climbing 3.6 percent in November. The latest inflation figure is the lowest since March, when it was 2.6 percent.

Among different groups, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose the most by 6.2 percent, followed by transportation prices which increased 4.3 percent.

Meanwhile, communication charges were 10.7 percent lower.

Sequentially, the HICP fell modestly by 0.6 percent in December, after declining 1.9 percent in November.
