Mining giant BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP: Quote,BHP.AX,BBL: Quote,BLT.L) reported that its December quarter iron ore production rose 3% to 42.19 million tonnes from 41.07 million tonnes in the year ago quarter.
Total petroleum products for the quarter were 59.90 million Barrel of Oil Equivalents or boe, up 3% from 57.98 million boe in the same quarter last year.
Aluminium production for the quarter declined 5% to 297 thousand tonnes from 313 thousand tonnes last year. Nickel production declined 10% from a year earlier.
Copper in concentrate production at Escondida increased by 70% in the December 2012 half year when compared with the prior corresponding period. Total Escondida copper production is on track to increase by 20% in the 2013 financial year.
The company stated that the strong outlook for WAIO business is underpinned by an anticipated five per cent increase in production in the 2013 financial year, for unchanged guidance of 183 million tonnes (100 per cent basis).
