FuelCell Energy Inc. (FCEL: Quote), a maker of fuel cell power plants, Monday reported net loss to common shares of $12.5 million or $0.07 per share for the first quarter. This compares with net loss of $6.7 million or $0.05 per share a year ago.
Revenues for the quarter were $36.4 million, compared with $31.3 million a year ago.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated a loss of $0.04 per share on revenues of $34.79 million for the quarter. Analysts’ estimates typically exclude special items.
Results were partly impacted by cost of revenues that increased to $38.7 million from $29 million in the prior year.
Backlog totaled $428 million at January 2013 compared to $319 million at October 2012.
Shares of the company lost about 4 percent in after-hours trade on the Nasdaq.
