A House of Commons committee will again conduct a study into the proposed merger of Rogers Communications (RCI) and Shaw Communications (SJR).
The federal industry committee will meet on January 25 to review the proposed $26 billion deal for a second time.
A Federal Court of Appeal will hear the Competition Bureau’s appeal of a decision that cleared the way for Rogers to takeover Shaw on January 24.
The House of Commons committee had previously reviewed the proposed merger in March 2022 and recommended against the transaction.
Now the committee will conduct a second study into the acquisition, which has since changed to include the sale of Shaw-owned Freedom Mobile to Quebec’s Videotron (QBR).
Rogers’ stock is up 5% in the last year at $64.70 per share. Shaw’s stock is up 2% in the past 12 months and trading at $38.37 a share.
