Aerospace and defense firm, BAE Systems plc (BA.L), Tuesday announced that it has received contract extensions worth $60 million from the U.S. Air Force Space Command to continue to provide technical services for the radar and telescope systems that are utilized by missile warnings and space surveillance systems.
These systems serve to identify various man-made objects in space including rocket parts and active or inactive satellites in addition to tracking intrusive objects in the atmosphere, information that is of paramount importance to the defense department.
The company received extensions for 3 contracts for which it has been supporting, namely, SSPARS since 2006, receiving a $49 million extension, GEODSS since 2009, receiving a $5.5 million extension in addition to PARCS since 2003,receiving a $7 million extension, all for the year 2013.
