Apple has been granted a new patent for a SIM card connector device. The California tech giant filed for the U.S. patent in 2010 and has since been issued patent number 8,337,223.
According to a report from slashgear.com the patent is named “Mini-SIM Connector” and is designed to enable easier input and removal of micro-SIM cards from computers, phones, tablets and other devices. The site adds that the device resembles a hold for the micro-SIM card that prevents the delicate cards from being damaged.
Inventors listed on the patent include Zheng Gao, Benjamin Rappoport, and Steve McClure. In recent years Apple has pushed for a greater hold in SIM card technology, including nano-SIM cards. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute, however, recently announced new standards for SIM cards.
