Portugal’s EU harmonized inflation increased in December after easing in the previous month, data released by Statistics Portugal showed on Friday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) rose 2.1 percent annually in December, after gaining 1.9 percent in November. In October, prices had increased 2.1 percent.
Sequentially, the HICP edged up 0.2 percent during the month.
In the whole of 2012, the average EU harmonized inflation was 2.8 percent, lower than 3.6 percent recorded in 2011.
Inflation as per the consumer price index (CPI) rose to 1.92 percent in December from 1.89 percent in the previous month. Sequentially, consumer prices remained unchanged, after falling 0.3 percent in November.
Core inflation as per the CPI, excluding energy and unprocessed food products, was 1.3 percent in December, higher than 1.2 percent recorded in November, data showed.
