“Kick-Ass” actor Aaron Johnson is reportedly the frontrunner for a starring role in an upcoming “Godzilla” reboot. According to NME.com, the new project will be directed by “Monsters” helmer Gareth Edwards.
The film is already picking up some buzz as the script is getting a re-write from Frank Darabont, best known as the writer/director behind “The Shawshank Redemption.” The original script was penned by Max Borenstein.
Production is slated to begin in March of this year and currently Warners has the project slated for a release in May 2014. “Independence Day” director Roland Emmerich directed a Hollywood remake of the classic in 1998, but it flopped both critically and commercially. Edwards says he hopes to do a better job with a “a grounded, realistic approach.”
