India’s Wholesale Price Inflation Slows Marginally In December

India’s wholesale price inflation fell slightly to 7.18 percent in December from 7.24 percent in November, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Monday. During the same period of last year, inflation was 7.74 percent.

Inflation was forecast to increase to 7.37 percent in December.

Prices of food articles surged by 11.16 percent year-on-year, compared to just 0.79 percent increase a year ago. Meanwhile, the increase in prices of fuel and power slowed to 9.38 percent from 14.98 percent in the prior year.

The ministry said the build up inflation in the financial year so far was 4.72 percent versus a build up of 5.22 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Elsewhere, the Central Statistics Office said consumer price inflation rose to 10.56 percent in December from 9.9 percent seen in November.
