Swedish apparel retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB (HEN.L,HMRZF.PK,HNNMY.PK) Tuesday said its total sales for December,including Value Added Tax, or VAT, in local currencies increased 8 percent from last year.
Meanwhile, sales in comparable units declined 2 percent from the prior year. According to the company, sales for the recent month were impacted by a negative calendar effect of about 3 percentage points.
Comparable units comprise the stores and the internet and catalogue sales countries that have been in operation for at least one financial year.
In November, the company’s sales including VAT, in local currencies increased 7 percent, while sales in comparable units slid 1 percent from the preceding year.
In the fourth quarter, H&M had reported 9 percent increase in sales including VAT, in local currencies. Sales in comparable units were unchanged.
As at December 31, 2012, the company had 2,809 stores, compared to 2,490 stores on December 31, 2011.
Hennes & Mauritz is scheduled to publish its full-year results on January 30, 2013.
Separately, H&M said it appointed tennis star Tomas Berdych, as its brand ambassador.
In Stockholm, the shares are currently trading at 229.8 Swedish kronor, up 4.36 percent.
