French water treatment and waste management firm Suez Environnement Co SA (SZEVY.PK,SZEVF.PK) is said to have signed a waste generation contract in Poland worth 850 million euros to generate power from trash incineration, according to business daily LesEchos.
As part of the contract, an incinerator would be built in Poznan, with a capacity to process 210,000 tonnes of waste per year, to be operated for 25 years. The steam generated from the incinerator would be fed into the city’s heating system, operated by Veolia’s division, Dalkia. Reports added that both Suez and Marguerite Fund would be sharing the construction costs.
The plant may significantly reduce the disposal of waste in local landfills, as per the EU Landfill Directive and Poland’s Law on Waste.
