Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) at the forefront of innovation once again.
Tell us if you’ve heard this before: the next iPad will be thinner and lighter. If you haven’t, let us introduce you to the phrase. It’s one of Apple’s favorites.
Today, AppleInsider points out analyst commentary on the next version of Apple’s iPad tablet. KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo said the next 9.7-inch iPad will “borrow design cues” from the iPad mini. It will be “significantly” lighter and slimmer, with a narrower body design. The device may also have software intended to ignore unintended touches.
Kuo sees the fifth-generation iPad arriving in third-quarter 2013.
There’s where the innovation stops, really. Thinner and lighter. Admittedly, achieving both with such a high-tech device is a challenge to achieve, which is why every company isn’t doing it. Still, how many more times will the same shape and layout appear. Even General Motors (NYSE: GM) manages a refresh on its staple Corvette every few years.
Apple is up 2 percent on the session after a few sessions of getting hit.
