French retailer Carrefour Group (0NPH.L,CRRFY.PK,CRERF.PK) said its fourth-quarter 2012 sales, including value added tax or VAT, improved 0.8% to 22.9 billion euros, helped by Latin America and food sales. Including petrol and at constant exchange rates, total sales went up 2.1%, and like-for-like Group sales up 1.3%.
The company added that the latest quarter confirmed the improvement in trends reported in France in the third quarter, while consumption in Southern Europe remains under pressure.
Total sales for the 2012 fourth quarter grew 1.6%, at constant exchange rates, excluding petrol, with like-for-like sales improving 0.4%.
