Al Pacino has reportedly signed on to portray late Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno on the big screen. The project, titled “Happy Valley,” will find Pacino once again connecting with his “Scarface” director Brian De Palma.
The film will tell the story of Paterno’s fall from grace after years as a legend at the school. Paterno left the post following the child molestation controversy surrounding his assistant coach and close friend Jerry Sandusky.
The film will be loosely based on the book “Paterno” by Joe Posnanski and will be produced by “Wall Street” producer Edward R. Pressman.
“Happy Valley reunites the Scarface and Carlito’s Way team of De Palma & Pacino for the third time and I can’t think of a better duo to tell this story of a complex, intensely righteous man who was brought down by his own tragic flaw,” said Pressman in confirming the deal to Deadline.
