Michelle Williams, of the soon-to-be reunited Destiny’s Child, has been added to the bill of the hit musical, Fela!, which production she will join in time for its Washington run from January 29 to February 10.
Williams takes over the role of Sandra Isadore, an activist who becomes a love interest to legendary Afro-pop artist and titular figure, Fela Kuti.
She is scheduled to remain with the production for dates in Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Los Angeles and other cities. Dates are scheduled through a stint in Oakland June 5-9.
“This musical journey is one that I’ve wanted to be on since seeing it on stage in 2008. The sounds, the passion and the politics of Fela Kuti have long intrigued me and speak to my heart. I am simply honored,” said Williams in a statement.
