Finland December Jobless Rate Dips

Finland’s unemployment rate for December declined from a year ago, data released by Statistics Finland showed on Tuesday.

The Labor Force Survey revealed that the jobless rate came in at 6.9 percent in December, down from 7.4 percent during the same period previous year. In November, the figure had risen to 7.3 percent from October’s 6.9 percent.

The number of unemployed persons totaled 180,000 in December compared to 192,000 during December 2011. The employment total stood at 2.413 million in December, up by 2,000 from last year. The activity rate in December was 63.5 percent, down by 0.5 percentage points from the previous year.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate slid to 7.7 percent from 7.8 percent in the previous month. The December figure was the lowest since June, when jobless rate was 7.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in the fourth quarter was 7.0 percent compared to 6.8 percent in the comparable quarter of the previous year. For the entire year ended December, the unemployment rate was 7.7 percent, having been 7.8 percent in 2011 and 8.4 percent in 2010.
