The number of building permits issued in New Zealand rebounded in December, data from Statistics New Zealand showed Wednesday.
Permits issued for buildings, including apartments, climbed 9.4 percent month-on-month on a seasonally adjusted basis. This followed a 5.2 percent fall in November. Consents for non-apartment houses decreased 1 percent in December.
In 2012, the number of consents for new houses increased by 3,267, or 24 percent, to 16,929. This was the largest number of new houses consented in a calendar year since 2008, according to the statistical office.
