Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is the leading smartphone manufacturer while Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Android operating system is the top smartphone platform in the United States based on the survey of comScore during the December quarter.
A recent report from comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ:SCOR) revealed that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is the leading smartphone manufacturer in the United States capturing 36.3 percent of the market share during the December quarter. The iPhone and iPad manufacturer gained two percentage points from its 34.3 percent market share in the previous quarter.
Samsung Electronics Co. was the second largest smartphone manufacturer during the three months period with 21 of the percent market share, an increase of 2.3 percent from 18.7 percent last September.
HTC and Motorola’s market share declined during the three months period. HTC’s market share was 12 percent, a 1.8 percent decline from 10.2 percent while Motorola’s market share dropped by 0.7 percent from 9.8 percent to 9.1 percent. LG’s market share rose by 0.5 percent to 7.1 percent.
On the other hand, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOD)’s Android operating system is the top smartphone platform with 53.4 percent market share, a 0.9 percent increase from its 52.5 percent market share during the previous three months period. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s operating system (iOS) market share increased by 2 percentage points from 34.3 percent last September to 36.3 percent.
During the period, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) market share declined by 2 percent from 8.4 percent to 6.4 percent. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) operating system market share also dropped by 0.7 percent from 3.6 percent to 2.9 percent. Symbian’s market share remained at 0.6 percent.
The research firm surveyed 125.9 million people who owned a smartphone in the United States during the three months period.
