Organizers of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an important meeting place for high-profile conservatives, failed to invite popular New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Christie, who delivered a prime time speech at the Republican National Convention in August, but was later savaged by ardent conservatives for his kind words for Barack Obama during Hurricane Sandy.
Big conservative names to get invited include Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Bobby Jindal, Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio.
Rachel Maddow teased out the implications of the snub on her blog:
“The message to Republicans isn’t subtle: there are multiple litmus tests and to be a national player, the right expects you to pass nearly all of them.”
However, a CPAC spokesperson, speaking with The Washington Post, said that the “schedule is still a work in progress with several more announcements pending over the next three weeks.”
