The trade surplus of the Czech Republic increased in January despite a fall in exports, the Czech Statistical Office said Friday.
The trade balance showed a surplus of CZK 31.5 billion, which was by CZK 1.1 billion higher than in the same period of last year. The expected level for January was CZK 29.6 billion.
Exports declined 3.2 percent and imports slipped 4.1 percent on a yearly basis in January. Expressed in US dollars, exports and imports fell by 0.4 percent and 1.4 percent respectively.
The trade balance with EU member states registered a surplus of CZK 65 billion, which was by CZK 5.4 billion lower than in the prior year.
