China announced reorganization by streamlining ministries as part of reforms to further boost development and check corruption.
The number of ministries under the State Council would be slashed to 25 from 27 and the much criticised railway ministry will be separated into two. The commercial functions will be taken over by China Railway, while administration wing will come under Transportation ministry.
The report will be delivered by State Councilor Ma Kai at a session during the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress on Sunday.
The government plans the combination of Health ministry with Family Planning Commission. Also, the General Administration of Press and Publication and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television will be united.
The State Food and Drug Administration was proposed to lift as a separate ministry following a large number of taint food product scandals.
Xi Jinping will become president next week after the retirement of Hu Jintao.
