NBC has pulled the plug on their struggling big budget drama “Smash.” The show centers on a rising Broadway star and has boasted an impressive cast of guests including Jennifer Hudson, Rosie O’Donnell and Liza Minelli.
Debra Messing, Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty all star as leads in the show, which started off with high ratings but posted troubling numbers for NBC last year. So far this season it has dipped down to 0.8 ratings for adults 18-49 and found just 3 million total viewers.
This season the show was relaunched with new show runner Josh Safran, who confirmed that the final episode this season, set for May 26, will be a series finale. Stephen Spielberg executive produced on the project, with major support from NBC chief Bob Greenblatt, who brought the show from his former home at Showtime.
