The latest video features highlights from Lori Blakerâs appearance at the US Chamber of Commerceâs âAdvancing Women to the Topâ leadership breakfast, where she spoke on gender diversity and leadership. The event was a partnership between the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Center for Women in Business (CWB), the Rochester Regional, Auburn Hills and Troy Chambers of Commerce.
Blaker expressed the contrast between how men and women are supported in the workplace, âI think that men have done a really good job, and they have had a lot more practice than us, at building their old boy networks. I think women have yet to do that. Where men support each other, they can be arrogant, cut throat and people will applaud that. Theyâll say, âWow what a business leader, heâs dynamic, heâs growing his organization!â If a woman does that, well weâre caddy, weâre witches⦠whatever! So there is a double standard.â
Blaker went on to emphasize that women should learn from men, saying, âMen have done an exceedingly great job at building their networks and building their support systems together. We have got to learn how to do that. Women need to learn how to do that.â Blaker has been taking a leadership role in advancing the goals of gender diversity in the workplace.
