When it comes to the app market, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) does not always receive the attention it deserves. Although the company is not on the same level as its competitors, including Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), things are moving forward at a brisk pace.
Most recently, the TWC (Time Warner Cable) TV app launched on Xbox 360. This is big news for the company, as it gives Xbox Live Gold members in the United States (have to be a TWC subscriber) access to roughly 300 popular television channels.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Welcomes TWC
It is hard to imagine just how excited MSFT is about this partnership. It helps put the company on the map as far as its app offerings are concerned.
Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing, Strategy and Business, Xbox added “for Xbox and our customers with Time Warner Cable, this is a landmark partnership and one that’s been a longtime in the making.”
In other words, this is not something that came up overnight. There was a lot of work involved to make this happen, on both ends, and Mehdi is proud of the partnership and what it will mean to the company’s millions of customers.
Is this really that big of a deal? For TWC subscribers and Xbox 360 users, the answer is a resounding yes. With this new app, you can turn your gaming console into a full fledged entertainment console. Now, you can take a break from that game of Madden to watch a few episodes of your favorite show on Comedy Central, HBO, MTV, or one of hundreds of other channels.
The good news doesn’t stop there. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and TWC are looking into the possibility of adding Video On Demand through the app later in 2013. A date has not yet been confirmed by either company, but look for this to happen over the next few months. Customers will then have access to both broadcast television and TWC On Demand – that is truly the best of both worlds for those who enjoy watching television.
This is a nice addition for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), in terms of its app offerings. Customers are sure to fall in love with what it has to offer.
It is things like this that have the following hedge fund managers excited about the future of Microsoft: Kelly Cardwell, Sandy Nairn, Jeffrey Ubben, William Duhamel, and James Litinsky.
