Google Inc (GOOG) Helping the World Explore Historic Volcanic Archipelago

Earlier this week, we talked about Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s interest in music. This time around, we are going to take a closer look at something a bit more educational.

As you may or may not know, this week is the 178th anniversary of Darwin’s initial exploration of the Galapagos Islands. Even if this has slipped your mind (which it probably did), the search engine giant has you covered.

What many people don’t know is that this volcanic archipelago is one of the most historical, biodiverse places in the world. During his time on the islands,  Darwin was able to observe the animals and use his findings to develop his theory on evolution. How cool is that?

Let’s face it: most people are never going to have the time or money to visit the Galapagos Islands in person. That being said, you may still want to dig up some information on the area.

This is where Google comes into play.

According to an official blog post from the company, it has partnered with the Galapagos National Park and Charles Darwin Foundation to offer 360 degree images of the islands, all of which were recently captured with the company’s Street View Trekker technology.

In short, this allows you to visit the Galapagos Islands from anywhere in the world. As long as you have access to the internet, you can experience many of the same things as Darwin himself.

If you are interested in getting started, you can visit this page for the Street View imagery. It will not be long before you are learning more about the islands, and maybe even doing some additional research on your own (which Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) can also help with).

When it comes to education and history, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is always on the ball. It may have taken somebody 178 years to offer something this extensive, but now that it is here you can expect many to take advantage.

Google has found a way to bring the Galapagos Islands to your home. This educational experience is one that you don’t want to miss out on.

Do projects like these have you excited about the future of Google? These hedge fund managers continue to like what they see from the company: Christopher Hansen, Robert Karr, Daniel Benton, Gregory Bylinsky, and Sandy Nairn.
