While the U.S. markets seem focused on Blackberry Deal or lack of a deal the game saving play and stock speculation has been in Nokia Corporation (NOK, quote) in the sale of their handset business.
Stock has been a rocket since and today they announced what people want Blackberry (BBRY, quote) to do:
Sell their patents and monetize the intellectual value in the business, not the hardware.
Selling the handset business to Microsoft (MSFT, quote) was brilliant (albeit way too late) but allows them to concentrate on a path forward that is not buckling under the weight of R&D costs for cutting edge hardware they lost that battle 5 years ago.
Nokia used to be “my girl” (reference to my commentary on Nokia as the former leader in emerging market handset sales). I have been adding to a small legacy position I bought in 2010 with an average price of $8.10….STAYING LONG and like dating my “old girl”.
