Italy just announced that it would issue 50 year sovereign debt, replacing their maximum maturity of 30 years. Italy is now following Belgium, France, Japan and Spain in taking advantage of the historically low interest rates spurred by central bank stimulus. Japan’s maximum maturity is only 40 years, however.
