The Wall Street Journal on Friday reported that Tesla is facing a deepening criminal investigation over whether it misstated production numbers. Citing people familiar with the matter, the Journal said FBI agents are looking into whether the car maker misstated information about production of its Model 3 sedans and misled investors about the company’s business going back to early 2017. In response to a tweet from Charles Gasparino of Fox Business that said, “not really that much of a story. we know the Feds are looking at this FBI does the leg work and these case are VERY difficult to make. shld point out as ive previously reported @SEC_Enforcement is looking at the same thing $TSLA,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted, “Exactly, this is total bs. What part of ‘production hell’ sounds like a sure thing!?” Shares of Tesla are down $1.90 to $329.00 in premarket trading.
