NY Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered his daily COVID-19 briefing, during which he reported 481 coronavirus-related deaths in the state yesterday vs. 478 virus deaths the previous day. Cuomo delivered his briefing in Buffalo, NY and added that 125 of the 481 deaths occurred in Western New York. Cuomo reported new COVID hospitalizations are down, with 1,308 yesterday vs. 1,380 the day before. Cuomo reported the hospitalizations 3-day average is down, ICU admissions is down, and intubations are also down. Cuomo announced that the state will begin to allow elective outpatient treatments in counties and hospitals without a significant surge in near-term COVID cases. The briefing was shorter than usual as Governor Cuomo will travel to Washington, DC to meet with President Trump in the White House. During the shortened question and answer portion of the briefing, Cuomo noted that the focus of his meeting with the president will be testing and how the partnership with the federal government will be. When asked about a potential Senate vote to refund portions of the CARES Act, Cuomo said, “I think it’s a terrible mistake to not fund the states.”
