McDonald’s’ (NYSE:MCD) has dropped Beyond Meat’s (NASDAQ:BYND) plant-based burger from its menu.
Between September 30 last year and April 6 of this year, McDonald’s launched two consecutive six-month trials of the Beyond Meat plant-based burger at dozens of its restaurants in southwestern Ontario. The fast-food chain dubbed the burger the “P.L.T.” (plant, lettuce, tomato) and said it was being tested in Canada for potential use at restaurants worldwide.
McDonald’s promoted the trial, which garnered international headlines due to its partnering with popular faux meat maker Beyond Meat to create the sandwich. However, McDonald’s ended the trial quietly at the end of April and made no public announcements about it. McDonald’s also removed information about the Beyond Meat burger from its website with no explanation.
Now, McDonald’s says that it has no plans to permanently add Beyond Meat’s plant-based burger to its menu.
“As we look ahead, we will plan to bring plant-based options to the menu at the right time for customers in individual markets,” McDonald’s said in a written statement.
