FIS (FIS) and Global Payments (GPN) recently held unsuccessful talks for a merger deal that could have been valued at around $70B, Cara Lombardo and Dana Cimilluca of Wall Street Journal report, citing people familiar with the matter. The companies were in advanced talks and aiming to announce a deal this coming week before the negotiations broke down in the last few days, sources told the Journal. There is little prospect of the talks resuming imminently, though they could get revived later, some of the people said.
