On a much reduced schedule Monday, Asia stocks saw more muted moves.
The Nikkei 225 jumped 235.25 points, or 0.8%, Monday to 30,089.25.
The Japanese yen traded at 110.57 per U.S. dollar, following an earlier low of 110.74 against the greenback.
In South Korea, shares of LG Electronics dropped 2.5%. The firm announced Monday that it is closing its mobile business unit to focus resources in “growth areas” such as electric vehicle components.
The Australian dollar changed hands at $0.7623, above levels below $0.756 seen last week.
In other markets
In Singapore, the Straits Times index gained 28.06 points, or 0.9%, to 3,209.74.
In Korea, the Kospi index added 8.03 points, or 0.3%, to 3,120.83.
Stock markets in Shanghai, Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia remained closed for the Easter long weekend.
