Historically, miners are not thought of as leaders in the sustainability movement. However, this company is looking to make a change in how it views economic value and environmental performance.
Sherritt International Corporation (TSX: S), a world leader in mining and refining nickel and cobalt, today recently outlined its performance on environmental, social, and governance matters and upgraded targets and commitments.
The firm’s 2020 sustainability highlights include zero work-related fatalities, additional health and safety measures and no security incidents involving allegations of human rights abuses at its operations. The company has also upgraded its ESG targets, including reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions and achieving net carbon neutrality by 2050.
Shares of Sherritt, which is also the largest independent energy producer in Cuba, were trending down with the overall market in morning trade.
