The Government of Ontario is pausing its economic reopening plan following a rise in COVID-19 cases in Canada’s most populous province.
The provincial government had planned on removing a cap on the number of people permitted in night clubs, strip clubs, sex clubs and bathhouses on November 15, and said that all restrictions could be lifted by March of next year.
But Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s top doctor, says that the move will be delayed for at least 28 days as he monitors the COVID-19 case load. Ontario reported 454 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday (November 10).
The decision comes a day after Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said the province would stay the course with its reopening plan.
Dr. Moore says hospital and intensive care capacity remains stable across Ontario, but the infection rate is rising.
