%Block ($SQ), the company formerly known as Square, has released images of its prototype %Cryptocurrency hardware wallet.
Block says the device aims to help people “safely own and manage their %Bitcoin (%BTC).” Block’s hardware lead, Jesse Dorogusker, tweeted an image showing several devices, all of which include fingerprint readers and USB-C charging ports.
Block Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jack Dorsey announced last summer that the cryptocurrency hardware wallets were under development.
The company said the hardware wallet would be just one component in its cryptocurrency storage system and that it would have a corresponding mobile app for smartphones.
The hardware wallets look a bit rocky, or “rockey,” as Dorsey put it in a tweet.
The devices in the image tweeted out by Jesse Dorogusker look like various types of stone, such as marble and granite, and they have a geometric shape.
In a statement, Block said the hardware wallet images represent “some prototypes we are experimenting with for the hardware component of the wallet, which also will include a mobile app and a set of self-serve recovery tools.”
