NFT Giant OpenSea Discloses Major Data Breach

%OpenSea, a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (%NFTs), has reported a major email data breach and is warning users of ongoing phishing attacks.

OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace with a valuation of $13 billion U.S., said a contract employee downloaded and shared email addresses of its users and newsletter subscribers.

The scale of the security breach appears to be huge, with the company saying in a written statement that: “If you have shared your email with OpenSea in the past, you should assume you were impacted.”

The company said it has undertaken an investigation and reported the data breach to various law enforcement agencies.

More than 1.8 million people have made at least one purchase through the %Ethereum ($ETH) network that’s used by OpenSea, according to crypto analytics firm Dune Analytics.

%Cryptocurrency companies have increasingly been targeted by cybercriminals. %Fractal, another NFT platform, was hacked last December, and the scammer made off with $150,000 U.S.

One of the largest cryptocurrency heists to date was the $625 million U.S. theft from Ronin, a %Blockchain network that operates the online game “Axie Infinity.”
