Canada’s Vehicle Sales Fell 11.5% In June

Vehicle sales across Canada fell 11.5% in June from a year earlier, according to the latest data

from DesRosiers Automotive Consultants.

The consulting firm said that 143,773 new light vehicles were sold in Canada during June, the

lowest sales for that month since the 2008-09 financial crisis.

The main reasons for the decline were ongoing supply chain problems and higher interest rates

that make car loans less affordable.

DesRosiers said the June sales represent a big drop from the 162,500 vehicles sold in the same

month last year, while in 2018 there were more than 200,000 vehicles sold in the month of June.

Supply challenges, linked to a global shortage of semiconductors and microchips, continues to

hurt automotive sales.

DesRosiers said the seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales for June came in at 1.45 million

units, up from the 1.36 million units calculated in May.
