Oppenheimer analyst Rupesh Parikh’s store checks over the weekend observed a reduction in the regular price for Beyond Meat (BYND) burgers at the Costco (COST) in Wayne, New Jersey. Beyond plant-based burgers dropped about 10% to $1.50 a patty from $1.67 during store checks over Fourth of July weekend, Parikh tells investors in a research note. However, even with the reduction, Beyond’s pricing is still above Impossible Burgers, which retail at $1.44 at Costco, says the analyst. Parikh thinks the price drop and “continued aggressive discounting” suggests ongoing challenges for the category and for Beyond Meat’s prospects. The analyst continues to see difficulties in the company’s ability to ramp gross margins back to pre-pandemic levels. Parikh keeps a Perform rating Beyond Meat, whose shares are up 4% to $35.42 in midday trading.
