Montreal-based CAE (CAE) says it plans to focus on electric airplanes going forward in an effort
to combat climate change.
The Canadian manufacturer of flight and training simulators says it will convert two-thirds of its
fleet of 200 Piper training aircraft to battery-powered vehicles.
The company will also bring an electric variant of the airplane to market and launch a curriculum
for new pilots to train on fully electric aircraft.
CAE’s announcement, which was made at the Farnborough Airshow in England, comes amid
record heat throughout Europe, including all-time high temperatures in the United Kingdom.
The federal government in Ottawa has said that it wants to make development of green
technologies a key part of Canada’s aerospace sector.
CAE stock is up 3% this year and trading at $33.71 per share.
