Saskatchewan-based fertilizer company Nutrien (NTR) is buying Brazilian retailer Casa do
Adubo S.A. as part of a strategy to expand its footprint in Latin America.
The Saskatoon headquartered fertilizer company says the acquisition includes 39 retail
locations under the brand “Casa do Adubo,” and 10 fertilizer distribution centres under the
“Agrodistribuidor Casal” brand.
Nutrien says the deal is part of its plan to grow its retail presence in Latin America and should
add $400 million U.S. in annual sales to the company’s earnings, bringing its total sales in Latin
America to $2.2 billion U.S. per year.
The transaction requires approval from Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense
and is expected to close later this year.
Once completed, Nutrien will have 180 commercial fertilizer sites located in Latin America,
including customer-facing retail branches and five industrial plants.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Nutrien’s stock is up 13% this year and
currently trading at $102.89 per share.
