Canadian international merchandise trade (June) In May, Canada’s merchandise exports rose 4.1%, a fifth consecutive monthly increase. Meanwhile, imports decreased 0.7%.
As a result, Canada’s merchandise trade surplus with the world widened from $2.2 billion in April to $5.3 billion in May, the largest trade surplus since August 2008.
Building permits (June) The total value of building permits in Canada rose 2.3% in May to $12.1 billion.
The non-residential sector increased 7.0% to $4.3 billion, while the residential sector edged down 0.1% to $7.8 billion.
