Amazon To Shutdown Its Telehealth Business

Amazon (AMZN) has announced plans to shutdown its telehealth service called “Amazon Care,”
ending the e-commerce company’s efforts to expand into the healthcare sector.

Amazon said it will close the telehealth service by December 31 of this year. The company said
that it has determined that it wasn’t “the right long-term solution for our enterprise customers.”

Amazon Care was launched in 2019 as a pilot project for employees in and around the
company’s Seattle headquarters. The service provides virtual care visits, as well as free
telehealth consultations and in-home visits for a fee from nurses.

The company expanded Amazon Care’s virtual offerings nationwide for its employees and other
companies in February of this year, signaling that it was supporting growth of the service.

Amazon Care’s corporate clients include Hilton Hotels (HLT), Silicon Laboratories (SLAB), and
Whole Foods, among others.

Amazon stock is down 21% this year and currently trading at $133.80 a share.
