Trading restarted on the Toronto Stock Exchange after a technical problem shutdown the index
for part of the day on November 1.
On social media, the Toronto Stock Exchange said it was experiencing a trading problem with
“TSX Order Entry symbol range M – S.”
The November 1 shutdown was the third outage at the exchange in the past six years. The last
time the Toronto Stock Exchange experienced a trading interruption was on February 27, 2020.
John McKenzie, chief executive officer (CEO) of TMX Group, the company that operates the
Toronto Stock Exchange, apologized for the outage and said it was due to a “software-related
issue.”
So far this year, the Toronto Stock Exchange is down 8%.
