Evans Hankey, the industrial design chief at %Apple ($AAPL) who oversaw products ranging from the %iPhone to the Mac computer, is leaving the company after three years in the job.
Hankey ran Apple’s design team after the departure of long-time product designer Jony Ive in 2019.
Hankey’s departure comes at a sensitive time for Apple, with many of the consumer electronics company’s existing products receiving only incremental updates each year while long-rumored new products such as a virtual reality headset and self-driving car have not yet appeared.
Hankey stepped into the design chief role after Ive left to start his own design firm called %LoveFrom. Ive had worked with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs on products ranging from candy-colored iMac computers to the original iPod and iPhone.
The products designed by Ive revived Apple and helped it become the most valuable publicly traded company in the world.
Hankey most recently helped to refine notifications and the tap feature on the Apple Watch and made design improvements to %AirPod wireless headphones.
Apple has not publicly commented on Hankey’s departure or announced his replacement.
Apple’s stock is down 19% this year and trading at $147.27 U.S. per share.
