The popular %MessagingPlatform WhatsApp, which is owned by %MetaPlatforms ($META), is back online after suffering a global outage that impacted users worldwide.
Meta Platforms said only that the problem at WhatsApp has been fixed but did not give a reason for the global disruption that impacted as many as two billion users around the world.
“We know people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp. We have fixed the issue and apologize for any inconvenience,” reads the statement from Meta Platforms.
The app, which offers end-to-end encryption for secure messages, is an extremely popular method of communication both socially and at work for many organizations. Several governments also use WhatsApp for regular voice, video, and text communications.
According to internet monitoring organization %NetBlocks, the WhatsApp outage negatively impacted users all over the world.
In 2021, WhatsApp went down as part of a six-hour outage that also impacted Facebook, Oculus, and Instagram, all of which are owned by Meta Platforms.
Meta’s stock is down 60% this year at $137.51 U.S. per share.
