U.K. tabloid Daily Star reports that Apple (AAPL) is interested in buying Manchester United (MANU) for GBP 5.8B. The paper’s chief sports writer Jeremy Cross says the Glazers will sell the club to the highest bidder and that “bosses of Apple have expressed an interest in discussing a potential deal.” Apple CEO Tim Cook “is keen to explore the opportunities owning United could provide – and will line up talks with the banks appointed to oversee the sale,” according to Cross. Part of Cook’s plan could include Apple funding the building of a “new state-of-the-art stadium that would be regarded the best in the world,” Cross adds. Shares of Manchester United are up 8% to $20.37 in morning trading.
